Celebrity Little Brother
February 10, 2006
Portsmouth Evening News
February 23: They are the enormous family – nine altogether – with the cheesy grins that thrilled thousands of weenyboppers back in the seventies.
The Osmonds did more for toothpaste sales than any dental health initiative. And they sold a few records as well. Millions of albums in fact – with several gold and platinum sales to their credit.
They also broke records for sell-out performances once held by the Beatles and Elvis, and won numerous awards. While they may no longer be at the cutting edge of pop, their clean-cut, wholesome image and close harmonies have endured. They perform all styles of music from barbershop, pop, rock, country, and jazz.
While brother Donny went on to forge a solo career – most notably appearing as Joseph in Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's musical Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat – brothers Jimmy, Wayne, Merrill and Jay are touring as a group.
Next year Wayne, Merrill, and Jay will be celebrating their 50th year in the entertainment industry, and this year is youngest brother Jimmy's 40th since he first appeared on stage belting out his little, chubby heart with songs such as the unforgettable Long Haired Lover From Liverpool.
In case you've forgotten already, Jimmy was the ultra-nice one in the last I'm A Celebrity ...Get Me Out Of Here. And he returned from the jungle to perform in Spirit Of Christmas at Portsmouth Guildhall.
He's back there, with Wayne, Merrill, and Jay, on Thursday, February 23.
