The Osmond family celebrated 50 years in show business in 2008, complete with a sold-out world concert tour and a Public Broadcast Service special. Now, the Osmond Brothers have returned to the Osmond Theater in Branson.
“We thought we were done after the 50th anniversary tour, but we just love Branson so much. The crowds here, especially the locals, have always been so supportive of us,” Jimmy Osmond said. “Our family has such amazing memories of this place, memories that you don’t normally get as an entertainer.”
The theater originally opened in 1992 as The Osmond Family Theater and since then, the theater, as well as the Osmond family, has maintained a consistent presence in the live music show capital of the world. They have returned each of the past five seasons to do a Christmas show at other venues, and are looking forward to doing regular shows.
“It is a different feel, performing in Branson,” Osmond said. “It’s more like inviting people into your home rather than into a casino.”
Joining Jimmy Osmond on stage are brothers Jay and Wayne. The brothers perform all styles of music from barbershop, pop, rock, country and jazz.
They have sold millions of albums and have several gold and platinum records to their credit.
The group originally consisted of brothers Alan, Wayne, Merrill and Jay, who were later joined by younger siblings Donny, Marie and Jimmy Osmond.
Their career began in 1958 when Alan, Wayne, Merrill and Jay began singing barbershop music for local audiences in and around their hometown of Ogden, Utah.
Their father, George took, the boys to audition for the Lawrence Welk Show. They were turned down, but a trip to Disneyland led to them singing with an adult barbershop quartet. They were then seen by the father of Andy Williams, who told his son to book the group. He did, and the rest is history.
“We love Andy Williams so much,” Jimmy Osmond said. “He really gave us our big break.”
After becoming regulars on the Andy Williams Show for nearly eight years, the group began to branch out and perform popular music.
They continued to tour and perform over the next 30-plus years, always keeping their relationship as a family the top priority.
“We are weird because you’d think after all these years my brothers would be a little calloused,” Jimmy Osmond said. “But in all honesty, they are the nicest human beings in the world. We have such a deep bond and love because we all did this together and we have been truly blessed. Our attitude is everything.”
That Osmond attitude is evident in their show, which will run through the first week of December.
“We have fans who come from all over the country just to see us,” Osmond said. “That is very humbling after all these years.”
Jimmy, Jay and Wayne take the time to connect with the crowd and perform at the same time. They will be joined by Merrill later this week before Jimmy takes a break.
“We constantly switch out to give everyone a break,” Osmond said. “Plus, you never know who else may show up at one of our shows, and that is how we like it.”
Since returning to Branson, Osmond has noticed more local residents want to see the show so they have expanded and extended their area appreciation policies.
“We had so many people call and ask us about extending our area appreciation show, that we just had to do it,” Osmond said. “We have residents of so many surrounding counties that have supported us, we just wanted to make sure everyone has a chance to come to the show.”
The area appreciation has been extended through the first week of October, and has been expanded to include residents of Taney, Stone, Greene, Christian, Barry, Lawrence, Dade, Polk, Dallas, Webster and Douglas counties in Missouri, and Marion, Boone, Carroll, Barton, Washington, Newton, Searcy and Madison counties in Arkansas.
Along with proof of residence, tickets will be $10 plus tax.
