Star Steps Off The Stage to Open Charity Shop

South Devon Herald Express
March 19, 2009

TORQUAY shoppers will get a chance to get up close and personal with heartthrob Jimmy Osmond when he declares a new charity shop open next week.

The singer will be taking time out of musical Chicago to cut the ribbon to Rowcroft Hospice shop in Union Street, Torquay, on Tuesday at 2pm.

After 20 years in their premises off Market Street, the Torquay hospice shop has now moved to a more prominent high street position, next to British Home Stores.

Sue Lloyd, retail manager at Rowcroft Hospice said: "We are both honoured and extremely excited to have Jimmy Osmond officially opening our new shop. Jimmy's support is greatly appreciated by all of the staff and volunteers.

"Our relocation onto Torquay high street marks a bold move and new era for the hospice shops and we are delighted with the continued support from the local community. The success of all our shops is reliant on the donated goods we receive, so please keep them coming!"

There are nine Rowcroft charity shops in South Devon, selling a wide range of donated goods including clothes, bric-a-brac and furniture. Each shop has a manager and a dedicated team of volunteers who sort, hang, price and sell an enormous amount of donated goods each year.
Chicago plays at the Princess Theatre from March 24 to 28.
